Home Modification & Improvements

Certified Aging In Place Specialists (CAPS)
Due to the burgeoning older adult population, more and more are interested in remodeling their home to fit their new lifestyles and abilities- also known as aging-in–place. Aging-in-place means remaining in one’s home safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level. It means the pleasure of living in a familiar environment throughout one’s maturing years, and the ability to enjoy the familiar daily rituals and special events that enrich all our lives. It means the reassurance of being able to call a house “home” for a lifetime.
A Certified Aging-In Place Specialist understands the guidelines and requirements of accessibility and can recommend specific design solutions for the client.  A Certified Aging-In Place Specialist is one who performs an assessment with invaluable and necessary input from occupational and physical therapists as well as qualified health care professionals in the design and necessary modifications that can transform a house into a safe, attractive, and comfortable home for life. And a qualified Aging-In Specialist can execute the job all the while the client remains in residence.

Living Communities

Assisted living facilities are for people needing assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) but wishing to live as independently as possible for as long as possible.  Assisted living exists to bridge the gap between independent living and nursing homes.  Residents in assisted living centers are not able to live by themselves but do not require constant care either.

Skilled Nursing Facilities, or Nursing Homes, may be independent or part of a senior continuing care community. 24-hour medical care is available, in addition to custodial care. Residents may be there temporarily for a period of rehabilitation, or may be there for long-term care. State regulations define the services that Skilled Nursing Facilities can provide.

Dementia or Alzheimer's unit may be indepedent or part of a senior continuing care community.   A dementia unit is not neccessarily an Alzheimer's unit.
